Short Description / Purpose of Job

Utilise a sound level of experience in electrical engineering to:

To deliver electrical engineering operational support to ensure that the technical ability of Sasol Secunda Operation meets operating intent, whilst governing operational technical standards.

manage and/or execute the design, engineering, development and modification of electrical systems in accordance with established engineering principles and standards to satisfy the business requirements.
To ensure installed assets are being operated at the most profitable operating window that will be determined by, but not limited to, throughputs, utility consumption, availability, reliability and quality.
Mitigate electrical risks through engineering out / improvement / renewal / re-design.

Manage deviations from electrical specifications or standards when necessary.

Provide engineering solutions to improve / maintain the application of technology to optimize the production plant capability.

Manage the electrical design function in Sasol Secunda Operation to ensure that projects deliver on their business and technical intent and to govern technical standards and relevant legislation across the Synfuels business.

 

Recruitment Description / Key Accountabilities

Business Results:
To interpret and translate business requirements into an electrical engineering strategy to enable BU to safely meet production targets.
Deliver integrated and in-time electrical technical support to the BU to improve stability.
Provide short term, intermediate and long-term technical solutions for BU.
Ensure equipment reliability and availability.
Interpret results from analysis and monitoring of electrical equipment/systems.
Equipment criticality is known for each BU.
Apply detailed knowledge in defined fields of electrical engineering.

Formulate and execute the electrical engineering scope for small multidisciplinary

projects.

Ensure and maintain awareness of best practices.

Utilise electrical engineering systems, tools and standards in all projects.

Assist to create, develop and update electrical engineering systems, tools and standards

with guidance from more experienced engineers.

Develop and govern technology procedures and standards relevant to the Sasol

environment in collaboration with international best practices and standards.

Act on time to changes/technical queries.

Develop and review technical deliverables.

Develop technical design packages for projects (front end loading, concept, basic and

detail engineering).

Review, comment, guide and govern the design process and deliverables from ECs,

OEMs and other engineers.

Track reliability deviations in order to establish failure trends and rectify pro-actively.

Support and give technology guidance to business units and equipment owners.

React to technology challenges and failures/incidents as required (first line support).

Conduct incident investigations and route cause analysis.

Support plant functions with technology related concerns and provide recommendations.

Audit current systems and technologies and do gap analysis with alignment planning.

Develop, track and govern maintenance strategies for new and legacy systems.

Conduct power system analysis studies e.g. load flow studies, fault level studies and

motor starting studies.

Conduct protection co-ordination studies, and calculate unit protection settings for various

electrical equipment.

Ensure quality assurance on technology and execution of new installations and

maintenance projects.

Implement QA/QC of technology and equipment installation, as well as all relevant

strategies leading to the point of execution and project closeout.

Governance and Assurance:
Effective monitoring of desired changes for multi-disciplines.
Provide clear guidance on relevant specifications and standards when changes take place in the electrical field for a specific plant.

Strategy and Planning:
Holistic view over current challenges / future requirements and life span of equipment.
Compiling holistic view of business unit renewal roadmap.

Knowledge Management:
Identify technical advanced electrical equipment that can have a significant production impact and become subject matter expert.
Build knowledge base in Business Unit for technically advanced electrical equipment.
Broad base of electrical engineering knowledge and competence in Business Unit.

Project Performance:

Critical evaluation on definition of problem statements and opportunities in the electrical fraternity
Identify areas where engineering is required to resolve the problem.

Project Execution:
Ability to formulate and execute (manage and do) the electrical engineering scope for small multidisciplinary and single disciplinary projects, relating to the defined fields in electrical engineering.

Contribute to project technical development strategies and execution as well as

contracting and selection of suppliers.

Develop and manage project execution planning with respect to electrical engineering.

Ensure quality assurance and quality control of delivered services by means of ETQP and

Hold/review plans.

Have deviation controls in place.

Ensure project success through adherence to cost, schedule and quality targets for project

scope.

Switchgear, transformers, motors, power electronics, selection of electrical equipment for use in hazardous locations etc. Concept, basic and detail engineering related to electrical engineering. Making professional technical recommendations. Conducting technical investigations.
