With Kaizer Chiefs having disappointingly crashed out of the Caf Confederations Cup, the club’s former player and football analyst Junior Khanye has attributed their poor performance to the lack of confidence from the coach and players.

Amakhosi won the second leg against the Zambian outfit at Moses Mabhida stadium. However, the aggregate remained tied which led to a penalty shootout after 90 minutes.

The Soweto giants then succumbed to a 3-2 defeat on penalties leading to their unfortunate elimination from the continental competition.

Analysing the defeat on iDiskiTV the former winger lamented lack of confidence from the technical team which then reflects on the players.

“There were three clear-cut chances and that is something that they are not used to. In other games they don’t get chances like that. When players are used to such chances it is very easy for them to be confident and be composed. In that chance [Asanele] Velebayi should have taken an extra touch if he was confident enough,” said Khanye.

“Their players lack confidence and it starts with the coach. If the leader does not have confidence, the players will not have confidence too. He plays with seven defenders, not just in the game against Red Arrows but almost all their games. If he starts games with seven defenders that means he lacks confidence on his players and that boils down to the players.”

Khanye further commended the performance of youngster Mfundo Vilakazi who was subbed in in the second half. Vilakazi gave the Red Arrows defence some problems with his skill and pace on the right flank.

His introduction sparked a lot of attack for The Glamour Boys leading to a number of clear goalscoring chances that could have possibly landed them in group stages of the tournament.
