Silulumanzi is inviting students to apply for their bursary programme, for the 2027 academic year.
Bursaries will be awarded for undergraduate studies within the Water Industry, particularly the following fields:
Biology (BSc)
Chemical Engineering (BSc)
Civil Engineering (BSc)
Electrical Engineering (Heavy Current/ Light Current) (BSc)
Environmental Science (National Diploma)
Fitter and Turner
Fitting (including Machinery)
Information Technology (BSc)
Instrumentation Mechanical
Mechanical Engineering (BSc)
Millwright
Quantity Survey (BSc)
Water Care (National Diploma)

WHAT EXPENSES DOES THE SILULUMANZI BURSARY COVER?
The bursary will provide cover for the following expenses: registration fees, tuition fees, prescribed books and/or study materials and accommodation.

WHAT IS THE SELECTION PROCESS AND OBLIGATIONS OF THE SILULUMANZI BURSARY?
Bursaries will be awarded based on academic merit, and will be awarded for 1 year at a time – renewable each year based on academic performance.
Shortlisted candidates will be contacted – if you do not receive any feedback, please accept that your application was unsuccessful.
Once students have graduated, they will be required to join Silulumanzi as an Intern – the duration of the internship will be equal to the duration of bursary funding received.
WHAT ARE THE ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA FOR THE SILULUMANZI BURSARY?
Applicants must satisfy the following minimum entry criteria before applying (please note that failure to satisfy all the requirements will lead to your application not being considered):
You must be a South African citizen
You must be currently in Matric or have completed Matric with a Bachelors pass
You must be studying or intend on studying full-time towards an undergraduate qualification, within one of the fields of study listed above
You must be studying or have been accepted to study at a recognised and accredited tertiary institution in South Africa
You must be interested in joining the Water Industry
You must have achieved a minimum of Level 6 for Mathematics and Science in Matric
You must have a strong academic record
Preference will be given:
previously disadvantaged individuals
females students
students with disabilities
South African citizens who reside within the above contractual concession areas where Silulumanzi operates (Mbombela city/ Nelspruit, KaNyamazane, Tekwane, Matsulu, KaMagugu, Msogwaba, Daantjie, Zwelisha, Mpakeni, Luphisi, Mattafin)

Application forms can be collected from the Silulumanzi Customer Care Offices in KaNyamazane, Matsulu, and Mbombela/ Nelspruit.

WHAT DOES SILULUMANZI DO?
Silulumanzi is a private water and wastewater services provider operating within the City of Mbombela Local Municipality in Mpumalanga, South Africa. Established in 1999, the company was formed through a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) to assist the municipality in delivering essential water and sanitation services to local communities.
As a subsidiary of South African Water Works (SAWW), Silulumanzi is responsible for supplying treated drinking water and managing wastewater services for hundreds of thousands of residents. The company has reported delivering more than 120 million litres of potable water daily to over 400 000 people.
Silulumanzi focuses on maintaining reliable water infrastructure, improving operational efficiency and ensuring access to safe water through modern technology and skilled personnel. Its responsibilities also include supporting effective sanitation services and sustainable water resource management.
Through its partnership with the City of Mbombela, Silulumanzi contributes to public health, environmental sustainability and the economic development of the communities it serves.
