PURPOSE
The Incumbent will be responsible for the overall stock management of medications and consumables for the Home Care and In-patient departments. The incumbent will provide a stock control service within the organisation to ensure that appropriate medication and pharmaceutical supplies are available at all times to meet the needs of patients. They will ensure that the pharmaceutical service and medication use comply with the applicable laws and regulations.
Duties & Responsibilities
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Manage the ordering, storage, issuing and disposal of medication and pharmaceutical supplies in the clinical department.
Manage and document any medication received as donations and ensure those medications are safe for reuse and dispensed through a doctor’s script.
Manage medication brought into the organisation for or by the patient in collaboration with the clinical supervisors.
Implement and monitor the process flow for when medication is required after office hours.
Store, handle, distribute and issue medications ordered by the Doctors.
Order medications from suppliers such as MOM/LIP or Morphine Syrup as examples.
Manage an identified area for quarantine of expired stock and donated medication.
Manage pharmaceutical records and statics.
Collaborate with identified service providers such as pharmacies and pharmaceutical suppliers.
Implement, monitor, and evaluate a documented stock control process and system for all medication and pharmaceutical supplies used in the organisation.
Keep a list of medication and pharmaceutical supplies stocked in the organisation.
Ensure that the medication and pharmaceutical storage areas comply with the pharmaceutical Acts and Regulations, and manufacturers guidelines for example security or temperature control.
Audit and stock control medications and pharmaceutical supplies kept under lock and key in the In-patient Unit and for the Home Care Registered Nurses stock kept on hand.
Keep a record of daily fridge temperatures and take action if the temperatures are out of range or not documented in the In-patient Unit.
Check for expiry dates of medications and pharmaceutical supplies and manage expired stock.
Be responsible for regulated destruction of medications – process to be followed through Averda.
Charge out through Panacea – working with Biling and Finance departments
Desired Experience & Qualification
QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE
Applicants must be fully qualified as a Pharmacy Assistant OR have worked for at least four years in a pharmacy or hospital environment as a stock controller.
Previous experience in a pharmaceutical or Hospice environment, working in an interdisciplinary team, would be an advantage.
If applicable, applicants must be registered with their professional bodies.
The successful candidate will be required to obtain a police clearance certificate within the three-month probationary period.
