The Department of Tourism in South Africa has launched two Youth Skill Development Programmes, aimed at upskilling unemployed youth and graduates to contribute meaningfully to the country’s economy.

Here’s what you need to know to apply.

Why are Skills Development Programmes important for the tourism sector?
Skills development programmes are essential for maintaining world-class service levels within the tourism value chain and ensuring an enhanced visitor experience.

They address skills shortages in the tourism sector by empowering unemployed youth and graduates with the necessary skills to thrive in the industry.

Food Safety Assurers Skills Programme
The Department of Tourism invites unemployed youth from KwaZulu-Natal to apply for the Food Safety Assurers Skills Training Programme.

This 12-month programme aims to widen employment opportunities in the hospitality and tourism sector, and persons with disabilities are encouraged to apply.

Stipend: R150 per day Requirements:

Age: between 18 and 35
Matric qualification, with fluency in English or a Tourism and Hospitality Qualification (provide certified copies of certificates)
CV with a motivational letter
Certified ID copy
Proof of residence and any relevant certificates
If you have participated in the Department’s learnership or skills programmes before, declare it in the motivational letter.
