Koffiefontein Diamond Mine Bursary SA

Based in the UK, Petra Diamond Limited is a mining group and one of the world’s largest and leading suppliers of rough diamonds.

The company owns the Koffiefontein Diamond Mine which is based in the Free State Province of South Africa, in a town called Koffiefontein between Kimberley and Bloemfontein.

With an extensive history, the mine was founded over 140 years ago and currently is mined to a depth of 600 meters. In 1994 the mine made history by finding a 232-carat diamond, one of its roughest diamonds ever discovered.

Closing date of the bursary
The closing date for the Koffiefontein Diamond Mine Bursary SA is 30 October 2021. Please do not send an application after the closing date.

 

The applicant awarded a bursary will need to sign an employment contract agreement. After graduation, the applicant is under Petra Diamond Mine’s employment with a payback time period for the length of study time.

During the selection process, you will be required to attend a panel interview and subject to pre-screening, mine assessments, profile tests, a medical and security clearance.

Bursary students are required and have the opportunity to attend a working holiday during the months of December and January at any Petra Diamond Mine operations.

What will the Bursary cover?
The Bursary will cover:

Full tuition fees
Full residence and meals or allowance equivalent
Annual cash and monthly allowance
Life skills training
Mandatory practical vacation on-site work
Who Can Apply?
Eligibility/Requirements:

South African Citizen
Registered and accepted at an accreditated South African University or University of Technology to study Geology
Reside within the Letsemeng and Xhariep District Municipalities for labour purposes
Studying towards a qualification in Geology
Students need to achieve a minimum result of level 6 for maths in matric mid-year examinations (excluding maths literacy)
Students need to achieve a minimum result of level 6 for Science in matric mid-year examinations
Industrial Engineering students must have achieved a minimum of Application Point Score (APS) of 35 points
Environmental and Engineering Geology, Engineering Geology, and Mining Engineering must have achieved a minimum Application Point Score (APS) of 31 points
Preference will be given to EE candidates, children of permanent staff, children enrolled in Company scholarships and individuals, from the local communities. Students in their last year of study, however, first-year University students may also apply for the bursary.
