The Canon Collins Scholarships

The Canon Collins Scholarships provided by the University of London allow students to progress their education through distance learning. The Canon Collins Scholarship is designed to help students pursuing a qualification in law and is open to applicants from Africa.

The University of London was founded in 1836 and overtime has offered students a vast array of easily accessible opportunities. The University of London was also one of the first institutions to grant students the opportunity to study internationally in 1985, providing access to tertiary education worldwide.

New bursaries

The Canon Collins Trust started in 1981 after Canon John Collins who was the founder of the British Defense and Aid Fund for Southern Africa (BDAF). This trust is now offering a scholarship to graduates in Africa.

Closing Date
The deadline for applications for the Canon Collins Scholarship is on Monday the 7th of June 2021, 5:00 pm GMT. Make sure to have your application submitted by then or it will not be considered.

The scholarship provides students with the means to study toward Postgraduate Certificates, Postgraduate Diplomas, and Masters of Laws (LLC) through distance learning.

The University of London provides its candidates with the option to begin at any level of their choice. They also allow the choice to not complete the whole program depending on what the candidate wishes.

Candidates should be aware that their entry point into the scholarship will be their starting point. Candidates will be awarded the Postgraduate Certificate, Diploma, and Masters of Laws if they complete their studies within 5 years.

Who can apply?
This scholarship is open to graduates who are residents of South Africa, Zimbabwe, Zambia, and Malawi that are currently employed and able to commit to 10 hours of study time per week.

The scholarship requires candidates to meet the following criteria:

Masters of Laws entry point requirements – minimum of 1

A Bachelor of Laws qualification with second class honors from the University of London.
A second-class bachelor’s degree or equivalent, with a minimum of half the subjects being related to law.
Passed the Bar Vocational Course of England and Wales or the qualifying exam of the Solicitor’s Regulation Authority of England.
Completed the Common Professional Examination or Graduate Diploma in law.
Qualified as solicitor or barrister in England, Wales, or any other country.
Postgraduate Diploma entry point requirements – minimum of 1:

A second-class bachelor’s degree or equivalent from the University of London or any other adequate institution.
A Master’s degree.
Postgraduate Certificate entry point requirements – minimum of 1:

A bachelor’s degree from the University of London or any other adequate institution.
A minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience.
What does the Canon Collins Scholarship cover?
The scholarship is awarded to 4 candidates, and the University of London will waive tuition and examination entry fees as a result. Candidates will have 5 years to complete their studies with registration renewal being dependent on progress and academic reports.
