About GrandWest
GrandWest Casino and Entertainment World, one of the largest entertainment destinations of its kind in South Africa, is owned and operated by Sun International. As one of Africa’s leading gaming and leisure groups, Sun International owns or holds interest in 19 casinos and luxury hotels, including GrandWest. Established in 2007, the GrandWest Bursary Fund aims to select beneficiaries from disadvantaged communities that do not have current or previous access to socio-economic developments.

GrandWest Socio-Economic Development (SED) Bursary 2021
The GrandWest Socio-Economic Development Bursary Fund focuses not only on academic results but also considers the “sheer determination” of a student, GrandWest said.

This means that the bursary fund does not only target high academic achievers. If you have overcome challenges to get into tertiary education, you should apply for this bursary.

“We are able to support up to 40 students this year, depending on availability,” said Genevieve Smith, sustainability manager at GrandWest.

GrandWest will be awarding bursaries to 40 Western Cape students who are studying within the following fields of study:

Tourism and Hospitality
Human Resources
Finance
Marketing
Entrepreneurship
Mechanical Engineering
Electrical Engineering
The bursary covers 75% to 100% of the tuition fees with no payback. It will also cover the textbook allowance, ongoing academic support and mentoring, and a job market preparation workshop.

GrandWest does not require students to pay back the bursary. However, successful bursars are required to contribute 40 hours of community service.
